Selecting your registrar...

Research
Accreditation, experience, auditors and frequency of surveillance audits are some of the most important factors in selecting a registrar. Spend a little time to research and find out:

If your clients have any objections to the accreditation bodies, e.g., ANAB, RvA, UKAS, etc. that have accredited the registrars you are interested in;

How much experience do these registrars have in your industry (SIC Codes)?;

About the qualification of their auditors - are they full time or independent contractors?

Where will their auditors travel from?

What is the frequency of their surveillance audits? (e.g., every 6 or 12 months)

What kind of contract do they make you sign with them? If necessary, how can you get out of the contract before it expires?

What is the total cost of the 3 year certification program?

Selection
Once you have narrowed your list to a few registrars, request a written proposal and have your consultant assist you in analyzing them. This can help you better understand what you are committing your organization to, for the next 3 or more years.
